Full-Day Therapy Intensives

When you're ready for a faster, more focused change...

Weekly psychotherapy can be an effective way to create meaningful change, and for many people it continues to be a solid option. Traditionally, therapy has been delivered in 45–60 minute weekly sessions — a model shaped largely by insurance requirements rather than by how change always happens best.

But weekly therapy isn’t the best fit for everyone.

If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or eager to make progress more quickly, there is another option. Therapy intensives offer a focused, immersive approach designed to help you gain relief and momentum in a much shorter period of time.

Some limitations of weekly therapy...

Weekly sessions can be helpful -- and they can also come with real constraints:

  • Slow start. It often takes multiple sessions to complete assessment and planning, meaning meaningful treatment may not begin for several weeks or more.

  • Limited time. Much of each session is spent checking in, reviewing the week, and wrapping up -- leaving only a small window for deeper work.

  • Loss of momentum. Between sessions, motivation can fade when the acute distress that prompted someone to seek counseling lessens, which can lead to ending therapy prematurely.

  • Scheduling Challenges. Weekly availability can be difficult for both clients and clinicians, sometimes leading to gaps that interrupt progress.

  • Insurance limitations. Some plans restrict sessions to 45 minutes, even though some of the most valuable work often happens toward the end of a session.

  • Fragmented learning. Tools and concepts can be harder to integrate and remember when they're spaced weeks apart.

How Therapy Intensives offer a different path

Therapy intensives are designed to remove many of these barriers by offering extended, focused time together.

  • Faster progress. Treatment begins on day one. In a single day, you cover what would otherwise take weeks or months.

  • Sustained momentum. Instead of restarting each week, you stay immersed in the work.

  • Simplified scheduling. One primary day, rather than ongoing weekly coordination.

  • Your motivation stays high. Working for a full day is exciting and rewarding. It is fun to get a full toolbox that you can start practicing with right away.

  • Stronger therapeutic connection. Spending extended time together can help build rapport and trust more quickly

  • Privacy and flexibility. Intensives are private-pay and not billed through insurance, reducing administrative stress and increasing confidentiality.

How intensives work

  1. The first step is a free 20-minute phone consultation. You can schedule this by calling 281-746-9826 or emailing kristen@upliftingcounsel.com. During the consultation we will:

    • Discuss your goals and current concerns

    • Determine whether an intensive or another option (such as groups or weekly therapy) is the best fit

    • Decide which type of intensive would be most helpful

    • Answer any questions you may have

  2. If we decide that an intensive is the next step, we get our 6-hour virtual session on the calendar! Although there is some flexibility, a typical intensive would be on a weekday starting at 9 am and ending at 4 pm (half hour lunch and 2 breaks)

  3. At the end of the intensive we schedule our 3 bonus follow-up sessions. Although not required, intensives include these follow-ups to check in and answer questions about the tools you are using, tweak things that aren't working as well, and problem-solve for how to continue to make great improvement. The 55-minute follow-up sessions are scheduled 1 week after the intensive, then 2 weeks later, then a month later

What's included

  • Free phone consultation for planning and to answer questions

  • Full-day (6-hour) therapy intensive focused on anxiety or OCD

  • Bonus: 3 follow-up sessions (55 minutes each)

  • Bonus: Unlimited messaging for process-oriented questions for 2 months following the day of the intensive

The cost of a therapy intensive including everything above is $2200 (half paid ahead of the intensive day to secure your spot, and half on the day of the intensive)

Intensive Types (4 options)

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Anxiety

In this intensive, we will discuss your unique background and experience in order to make an individualized anxiety treatment plan. We will discuss evidence-based cognitive-behavioral therapy tools. We will also talk about how to navigate and prevent your specific anxiety triggers, lifestyle factors that affect the nervous system, and how exposure strategies can be utilized as an anxiety tool.

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD

In this intensive, we will begin with a detailed assessment of the obsessive thoughts and compulsions you experience. We will then develop a personalized, specific Exposure and Response Prevention plan that will challenge you to complete important exposures while honoring your pace. We will discuss how to complete exposures independently and strategies to avoid common ERP pitfalls. We will then do "in vivo" (in-session) exposure practice, starting with those with a lower anxiety rating so that you can get gentle wins to keep building upon.

Inference-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT) for OCD

In this intensive, we will begin with a detailed assessment of the obsessive thoughts and compulsions you experience. We will then use that to being the process of I-CBT, a structured, exercise-based approach that gives you tools to change your way of thinking around your obsessions and compulsions so that you do not have to immediately engage in exposure therapy. I-CBT can be a great strategy if you have tried Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and have not found it to be effective, or if engaging in ERP is currently too distressing. Instead of starting with exposure, we focus on changing how obsessive doubt is interpreted -- often reducing the need for compulsions.

ERP + I-CBT for OCD

This combined intensive introduces both ERP and I-CBT. We will develop a personalized exposure plan and practice exposures and also utilize I-CBT exercises. Because this format is more condensed, you may choose to add an additional day to fully explore and utilize both approaches.

Is an intensive right for you?

Intensives can be a great option if:

  • Your situation feels acute and you would urgently like relief

  • You prefer faster, concentrated treatment to a slower weekly pace

  • You've tried weekly therapy in the past and didn't make gains as quickly as you wanted

  • Scheduling one longer day (and a few follow-ups) is an easier fit for your schedule than ongoing weekly appointments

  • Your counseling budget allows for paying for multiple hours of therapy at once versus spacing it out over weeks

Ultimately, my desire is to support you in receiving the type of counseling that will be the best fit for you! Please contact me today to schedule a free phone consultation so we can discuss your options. You are also welcome to contact me with any questions. *A very important note: as a therapist, I will be doing no hard selling of any kind on your phone consultation. I have never approached phone consults in that way, as my desire is for you to find the best fit counselor, as well as the best fit type of therapy.
